Students bring Northwich tales to life

2:00pm Saturday 11th February 2012

SALT mining, the Anderton Boat Lift and the Lady of Marbury are just some of the stories from Northwich’s past that have been brought to life by young thespians.

Performance studies students from Sir John Deane’s College put together their own interpretations of these famous local tales along with wartime in Northwich and the Northwich work house.

They were performed at Moulton Village Hall on Tuesday, February 7, and were free for the public who came to see the show.

The Community Performance project is part of the students’ AS studies, and the six 30-minute performances were put on throughout the day.

The students had to research the history of the local area and interpret it into musical theatre, for which they wrote their own music, scripts and choreographed their own dance moves.

Josie Wilson, performance studies teacher, said: “It’s a very exciting project that has tested their creativity.

“They have risen to the challenge and have been completely committed and focused, resulting in some fantastic and informative pieces that resonated with people in the audience.”
