Northwich's new Carnival Queen has been chosen
8:40am Sunday 19th February 2012
A CUDDINGTON teenager said she feels excited and honoured to be chosen as this year’s Northwich Carnival Queen.
Schoolgirl Laura Eastwood, who lives in Meadow Close, is no stranger to carnival titles and retinue processions after previously taking on the roles of Fairy Queen and Rose Queen in Weaverham’s village carnival.
The 15-year-old pupil at Weaverham High School scooped the title of Northwich’s Carnival Queen for 2012 at the town’s Memorial Hall earlier this month.
Laura said: “I enjoyed taking part in Weaverham Carnival and I felt it would be an honour to represent Northwich as it is my home town.
“I am looking forward to the day and everyone being there because it’s a real community event.
“I really appreciate being in the carnival and being chosen as queen really does mean a lot.”
She added: “All my friends are really happy for me and have said congratulations and its been all over my Facebook page as well.”
Laura will be handed the crown by current carnival queen Holly Rowlinson at the event to be held in Verdin Park, on Saturday, July 7, and she will represent the town for a 12-month period.
Holly donated proceeds amounting to £1,000 from last year’s event to Northwich Stroke Club, the Alzheimer’s Society, Vale Royal Talking Newspaper, The Deafness Awareness Network and Age UK Cheshire at the selection day for the new queen and retinue.
Laura said she also has her sights set on a place at Sir John Deane’s College in September, to study AS Levels in English, Law, Psychology and Photography.
Members of the new Northwich Carnival retinue have also been chosen, with Ebonie Davey, 14, appointed as Lady in Waiting, Darcey Hemmings, 12, as Empress, Elizabeth Pimblatt, nine, as Princess, Natasha Warburton and Chloe Brady as Flower Girls, Georgia Rea-Taylor, eight, as Rosebud.
Lauren Cross, Abbey Colaianni, Emma Birdsey, Megan Colaianni, Ashleigh Evans and Elissa Heath have been chosen as Attendants and William Pimblatt will be the new Crown Bearer.
The position of Sceptre Bearer will be filled by Kevin Phipps, Alisha Stoll will be a sparkling Fairy Queen and Eve Isabell Hamman a carnival Fairy.
Barbara Turner, carnival organiser, said there are still some vacancies in the retinue for Train Bearers, aged five and six, Maids of Honour, aged between 10 and 12 and Fairies and Elves aged four.
