Teen attacked with knife in Northwich town centre
8:50am Wednesday 22nd February 2012
A TEENAGER was slashed across the face and neck with a knife in a vicious attack behind Northwich Magistrates Court.
The 19-year-old male, who has not been named but lives in Northwich, was walking home when the incident happened, at about 8.40pm on February 10.
Cheshire Police confirmed the victim received wounds to his face and neck after being cut with the knife two or three times.
Pub-goers at The Penny Black, in Witton Street, said the man, who is believed to be a young father, ran into the pub for help after the attack and told the Guardian that a Stanley Knife had been used in the incident, although this could not be confirmed by police.
An ambulance was called to take the man to Leighton Hospital, in Crewe, for treatment, where he is thought to have needed more than 60 stitches to patch up the wound.
Police arrested three men following the incident, an 18-year-old and a 20-year-old from Northwich and an 18-year-old from Ellesmere Port, for grievous bodily harm.
The Northwich pair were released on police bail until April, when they will be interviewed again.
The Ellesmere Port teenager was recalled by police and will be re-interviewed.
Inspector Paul Loughlin, of the Northwich Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: "We would like to reassure the community that knife crime is thankfully a rare occurrence in Northwich and Cheshire as a whole.
“Arrests have been made and enquiries are continuing.
"Anyone who sees or knows someone who carries a knife should contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
