Match Pointers
NORTHWICH try for a third time to host their FA Trophy third round tie against higher-ranked Hampton & Richmond tonight, Tuesday.
It marks Paul Simpson’s first match as manager too since taking over from Andy Preece.
Vics have won five matches to reach the last 16, their best run in the competition since 2007, including victories in each of the past two rounds against teams from further up the pyramid.
They have also progressed in a home tie in every round.
Midfield anchor Tom Field is suspended, so Kyle Armstrong stands by, while Sean Kinsella is cup tied.
The visitors haven’t played a match since sending out East Thurrock United at the second attempt a fortnight ago so, like Vics, are short on match practice.
Top scorer David Tarpey, a hat-trick hero in the Beavers’ replay success last time out, is one to watch.
Ricky Machel is a long-term injury absentee.
Hampton have been happier on their travels this term, winning more Blue Square Bet South encounters away from home than on their own pitch.
A reward for the victor later is a home date with Newport County in the last eight.
